ANP 1106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Adductor Longus Muscle, Ulna, Abdominal Wall
Document Summary
Skeletal & smooth muscle cells (not cardiac muscle cell) - elongated & called muscle fibers. Prefixes of muscle are - myo, mys or sacro. These sheaths are continuous w/ one another & tendons - joining muscles to bones. When muscles fibers contract - they pull on these sheaths transmitting pulling force to the bone - > to move. Contribute to natural elasticity of muscle tissue, provide routes & entry for blood vessels and nerve fibers. Skeletal muscle spain joints & attach to bones in 2 places: insertion & origin. Muscle attachment may be direct or indirect: (1) direct/fleshy attachments: epimysium muscle fused to periosteum of bone or perichondrium of cartilage (2) indirect attachments: muscle"s ct wrappings extend beyond muscle either as tendon or aponeurosis. This anchors the muscle to ct covering of skeletal element (bone or cartilage) or to fascia of muscles. Indirect attachments are common than direct - b/c of their durability & small size.
