Document Summary
1. 1 summarize the general anatomical features of the digestive system. 1. 1. 1 differentiate between the components of the alimentary canal and the accessory digestive organs. Alimentary canal is composed of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. It is a continuous muscular tube that runs from the mouth to the anus. It is through this canal that 3 main things take place: 1) digestion of the food 2) absorption digested fragments through the lining into the bloodstream 3) excretion of end products. Accessory digestive organs include the teeth, tongue, gallbladder, salivary glands, liver and the pancreas. All of the following, except teeth & tongue, are connected to the gi tract by ducts. Most of these accessory organs produce secretory products such as saliva, bile, enzymes to aid in the digestion of food. Also causes the mucosa to form extensive folds in the small intestine for the increase in surface area)
