Anthropologists are interested in the system of cultural transmission through mass media. Nonmaterial culture (includes values, beliefs, behaviours and social norms) Material culture (includes everything part of our constructed, physical environment, including technology) English representation as static, mirror image. French dynamic, production of images, symbols, signs, etc. Social representation are systems of preconceptions of images, of values, of social norms, of common layperson knowledge that have cultural meaning and are shared. Institutions: a set of behaviours that are seen by the members of a culture as organized and connected that form part of a unit. We can talk about this as a set of behaviours that are organized and connected, that follow particular patterns that involve certain beliefs, etc. that are specific to a culture. Participatory culture: a culture in which private persons (the public) do not act as consumers only, but also as contributors or producers (prosumers)
