ANT 2130 Lecture 18: April 10
Document Summary
Families in crisis: violence: not good relationships with them growing up, resentment from the past & growing up, finances, general stress of caring for a parent. Living arrangements: to redesign a house so that it"s disability safe, it costs a lot of money & in turn, will recreate stress, care facilities are expensive too, nearly k/year. Forms: social isolation: as you age, your friends age as well, so your social circle shrinks, some elder people can"t afford transportation other then public transportation. Alcohol: boredom, this relates to elder abuse because instead of helping their elders by getting them food and health needs, they are drowning them in alcohol. Impairment of caregiver or care recipient: addictions, are you capable of taking care of someone else, elders with alzheimer"s etc. Passive neglect: unintentionally ignored, forgotten about, life gets busy, stress piles up etc, not understanding the needs of elders.
