Blood pressure has no efect on maximal oxygen uptake. Some oxygen dissolved in blood parial pressure of oxygen. Plasma liquid porion of the blood in which blood cells are suspended (3l) Solutes: proteins such as albumin (osmoic pressure), globulins, ibrinogen, hormones (6-8%) At the end of the bed, osmoic pressure draws water back into the blood vessel. If water content goes down, plasma volume also decreases. Plasma is similar to intersiial luid (minus the large proteins) Biconcave (donut-like) disk shape for maximal surface area. Major funcion is o2 and co2 transport. Produced by bone marrow: erythropoiesis simulated by erythropoiein (epo) released in response to low o2 levels in the blood. Molecule consists of globin + 4 heme groups. 98. 5% of transported o2 is bound to hb. 1. 5% of transported o2 is dissolved in plasma. Deoxygenated hb is dark red (appears blue)
