Document Summary

1. sensory receptors detec stimuli changes to the internal/external environment, & send sensory input through sensory neurons. 2. interneurons in brains &/or spinal cord process and integrate this input: motor output through motor neurons is sent to muscle cells to effect a response. These neurons are in the brain & the spinal cord. These neurons extend into the body from the cns. 2 kinds of extensions: dendrites many extensions. Receive nerve impulses & send them toward the cell body. Conducts nerve impulses away from the cell body. Supporting cells wrapped around axons in the pns like beads on a string. This insulates the axon which speeds up transmission of nerve impulses. Cable like bundles of myelinated axons in the pns wrapped by connective tissue for protection. For every 3 sodiums that are being pumped out and 2 potassiums are being pumped in. Na gated channels open, reversing the charge on the membrane which depolarizes it.
