BIO 2135 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Swiss Army Knife, Arthropod Leg, Crustacean
Document Summary
Takes saccate metanaphridia and turns it into an antennal gland that sits base of antenna. What this is : arthropods have multiple appendages down the length of its body and the nephradia pre would have been at the base of one of these appendages. Hemocoel so no need of multiple metanaphridia. Ancestral were arranged linearly, antenni antenni and mandible, set of appendages all the way down identical. These appendages, are carrying out all 4 jobs. Move loco, feed, sensory, respiration (did all 4) Rather than have all identical, they will become specialized. But one of the thing thats unsual about this jaw is that instead of it working from tip it works them at base. Two branches that come off of it, outer exo, inner endo. Not unusual to find cutiuclar structures that branch from the base of the protopodite. Ancestraly all limbs were the same down the length of crustacean.
