Vaccine: suspension of attenuated or killed microorganisms, or a fraction of these, administered to induce an immune response and thus prevent the infectious disease. Anatoxin: modi ed non-toxic version of a toxin which retains its immunogenicity. Inactive form of the toxin that is still similar enough to the toxin that you will have learnt how to deal with it. Adjuvant: compound added to the vaccine preparation to increase the immune response. Helps ensure that the 3rd line is recruited and will assess, learn, and remember for next time. Preservative: thiomersal (an organomercurial) - antibacterial and antifungal.
