Document Summary

Bolide: things hitting the earth, liquefies earth"s crust. Volcanism blanketed the earth in darkness, caused acidification and massive climate change (co2) Source of acidification goes away but co2 is left over (raises temperature) Uncertain if it"s more or less important than volcanism, but is one of the things that made dinosaurs extinct. Climate change reduced habitat suitability throughout geographical ranges. Traps people in certain ranges (changes migration patterns) Overkill: people came as some of the large bodied species disappeared. We have eliminated the evolution of species from 1-2kg. When you remove species b you remove it back to the common ancestor and all unique evolutionary capabilities. How quick evolutionary declines with the loss of species. You can lose species but keep most of history, wont eliminate potential to respond and change environmental conditions in the future. Means that we can have extinctions without foreclosing on speicies in the future. K=how many terminals remain, n=how many there were before.
