Document Summary

Lec 15 evol of genes ii (slide pack 11) Trace back to how we discovered that that genome duplication occurred in the first place. Through comparison from yeast relative without duplications that the s. cerevisiae have undergone a duplication event. Maintenance of homogenous nt seq among multi-gene family members (especially in tandem) Mutation in one repeat spreads to others through evol time. Via unequal crossing over so increase number of repeats. Transfer genetic recomb from one similar dna to another to make them more similar. Example of concerted evolution in primate gamma-globin gene cluster. Duplication occurred before the divergence (present in common ancestor) Can use diff types of genes to align sequences, can also use diff parts of genes. Decided what to align based on diff parts of both the genes. And tree is based on aligning exon 3 of both genes. Genes are more similar than gene of same fn of diff species.
