Post-history rate is much higher than background rate. Used to be much more common, now much less. Introduction of cats and rats on na ve island pops. Hard dilemma when subsistence hunting has too big an impact. As populations grow, demands grow, hunting can become unsustainable. Made a reserve --> now hard for that area to hunt. Bottom is the reserve, very positive impact on their abundance. Declines in elephants due to poaching in minkebe national park, gabon. Highest abundance at remote spots and lowest near humans. Decline from 32 to 7 from 2004 to 2014 in mnp. 6 species of sharks in great barrier reef. Open-fishing (of), no-take (nt), limited fishing (lf) , no-entry (ne) Lf and nt aren"t being very protected compared to control. Observed growth rates in nt, lf and of. Growth rate is smaller than 1 --> unsustainable growth. Study examined commercial catch records for large predatory fish. Skates, rays, sharks, cod, tuna, billfish, swordfish etc.
