It works the same way but it is not safer, contrarily to believes. Chewing tobacco was popular with the working class. the bonsack machine helped with this. Cigarette would be rolled by hand, so they were expensive. Flue-curing helped with the drying process and reduced the harshness. It is dangerous however, because you can now swallow the smoke. In the late 1800, you would smoke 80 cigarettes/year. Flue curing and the reduced cost made it is more dangerous because risk= toxicity x exposure.
