No way to know which microbes will invade. Body stores small amounts of as many different antibodies as possible. Each c cell carries a different antibody. After infection, some b cells become memory cells. <5% of b cells in a newborn are memory cells. Viruses live inside cells and escape b cells. Killer t cell sends signal trigger - apoptpsis (cell suicide) Milkmaids *who got cowpox* did not get small pox. Hyde still exists at a med school. By 1900, small pox levels became low in industrialized countries. Today exists at cdc and in biological weapons. Scar is created by a special needle that was used. Weak bacteria did not stimulate a strong immune response. Treat w/ heat or chemical s to attenuate.
