Song dynasty was the most civil and educated dynasty. At the beginning of the song they established a painting academy. Painters draw maps, diagrams, and architectural designs, use to report what goes on in the empire. Literati painters are calligraphers combine writing skills in to the painting. Professional painters work for the central court and at the academy they are trained painters in the painting field. The aesthetics are very different between the two painters, they do not mingle with each other. Six persimmons shows some chinese characters in the stems. Hanging scroll wash technique with brush bristles. Seals are their signature because it is close to calligraphy. Inscriptions- can be poetry or short prose on how the painting was rendered. More about self-expression and own ideas they want to convey. Sell their work on the market- paint for profit. Fish hanging scroll (literati) descendent of ming family, became a refugee in the mountain due to take over.
