Document Summary
Introduction to organizational communication chapter 2 | lecture 2 | perceiving self in relation to others. Groups whose opinions we value (or in which we aspire to gain membership) are called reference groups. Developed by charles cooley; as our self concept develops it divides into four selves. Looking-glass self: how we think others see us. Ideal self: the person we would like to be. Our self concept is our thoughts and feelings about our identity, whereas our self identity is narrower and ts within our own self concept to emphasize our physical self. People with high self esteem tend to think well of others and expect to be accepted by others: are respectful and positive of others (don"t put others down) People with low self esteem tend to disapprove of others and expect to be rejected by others: nd fault and weakness, pointing out the aws of others.
