The trait Era: late 1800s to mid 1940s
A lot of companies use a lot of personality traits when recruiting leaders.
your personality will have an affect on your leadership style.
Behavioral Era: Mid-1940s to early 1970s
You can make people a good leader too by being a good leader
yourself. Certain habits / attributes that you appreciate in people. Things
that you feel people need to have as a good leader. You can teach
people.
The Contingency Era: Early 1960s to present
Rational Planning Models (E.G, MBO, MBR, SWOT, PPBS)
Emergent Influences
Situational theories and contingency processes.
Successful leaders will find a good fit between situation and the
context...change leadership style....situational leaders.
Management by objectives - goals and objectives will guide your
performance.
Management by results - certain concrete objects and outcomes.
SWOT - Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats.
PPBS - Programming, planning, budgeting systems
There is no one best style. In order to be successful we have to be
more flexible.
