Organizational cultures are emergent - cultures are socially created.
where people actually talk and create a culture. Historical values are
important as well. Unique events, etc. There is no one script that you
can use to describe a culture. Culture is socially constructed.
Organizational cultures are not unitary - within an organizational there
will be subcultures. It is not linear. Different levels, units, relationships.
Organizational cultures are often ambiguous - it is not possible to get a
very clear picture of an organizational culture. You have to acknowledge
that things might change as people change.
Scheins Model of Culture: The onion model
According to Shein (1992), Culture is . .
“a pattern of shared basic assumptions that the group

as the correct way to perceive, think, and feel in relation to
those problems” (p.12).
people have been doing things they way they think is the correct method
to do things. New comers need to learn the organizational culture.
If you value something you will believe in it. If you value innovation and will believe that you can innovate and create to
practically do something..project or something to make sure you are
able to do you change the some of the way you do
