How much do we touch?
(p293 NV in everyday life) McDaniel and Andersen (1998) found that strangers and
acquaintances in an airport touched as much as family members.
-How does the frequency of touch, and the need for touch, differ with adulthood and age?
-Do you think in North American culture, we have come to believe that most touch is sensuous
in nature (since it is done most usually in more personal settings), compared to other cultures?
-What effect would this have on our need for touch?
-How is touch ("do not touch!") seen has a negative thing in childhood? Is it?
-How do different contexts affect touch? (ie. deep conversation, giving information rather than
receiving it, seeking to persuade, greetings, team sports
-In what types of touch is the other person regarded as an object?
-When is touch better than words?
-Why can we not tickle ourselves?
-When is touch used manipulatively?

-touch increases heart rate and blood pressure
