The sexual revolution, contraception, abortions, household division of labour, marriage and divorce, professional women, the glass ceiling, wage equality, daycare, harassment, rape, domestic violence. In order to have control, there was a focus of being tied to economics or having a career. Pushback from the hegemonic powers burning bras, angry lesbians, anti-men/family, unshaven [associated created of what a feminist was thought to be] 1980s-90s: critical of second wave as it particularly had the focus on white middle-class women. Expanding focus beyond sexism to include racism, classism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, orientalism, islamophobia, imperialism, settler-colonialism, capitalism. 1980s and 1990s: the people in power did not want to give that up and felt threatened by feminism. Blames the second waves women"s movement for women"s continued struggles. Self-perpetuating cycle driving by the media- reports on single, working women (often false) perpetuate the sense that feminism failed equality wasn"t so great after all!
