Costs less: if both parties want to reach a settlement through mediation, the skill of the mediator can help them reach a solution in a short time. Can create good will: a mutually acceptable solution to a dispute lets both parties be winners and respect each other. The individual"s knowledge of his or her needs: mediators do not: Help parties to see and understand what interests are actually in conflict. Use their skills to help the parties problem-solve and assess possible solutions. Impose their will, or evaluate interests or positions on the basis of rights or possible legal outcome. Assist the parties in the selection of outcomes.
