People like to watch, we like to watch other people. People who agree to go on to these shows are seen as authentic and not as actors. This watching other people who are authentic confirms the viewers own selfhood. Schadenfreude - having a thrill of watching other person"s humility. If they shame themselves there will be upward and social mobility. They think they see themselves as the camera sees them. If you don"t dress right, there seems to be a very strong sense of oh i wouldn"t want people to see . Sender, k. the makeover mirror the reflexive self. Sender notes how this inner voice logic draws on the romantic ideas as inner self being source of goodness. The problem of discrepancy between inner and outer self remains a real risk. Trapped in the wrong body and other crises of congruence. Their assumption is a correspondence between inner self and physical body.
