It is impossible to not communicate: by not communicating you are still communicating lots of things, ie. not replying to email: lazy, lack of care, irresponsible. Connotative: everything beyond the actual definition of a word, how it is used in context influences its meaning: ie. tool , denotative meaning: something used to make things/do work, connotative meaning: this fucker. Ekman"s typical functions of nvc: to repeat, to conflict, to compliment/add to, to substitute, to regulate. Film clip: the emperor"s club: signs of power, sitting vs. standing, distraction: cigarette, posture of teacher, senator initiating handshake, lack of eye contact apart from when senator is speaking, location: senator"s office - his territory.
