Document Summary

Immigration is a major contributor to diversity: all immigrants face the same issue of moving between their ethnic group and the mainstream cultural group. Migration & globalization: globalization has redefined both the nature of immigration and the parameters by which we interpret it. Profound changes in the world political and economic order have generated large movements of people in almost every region. Thus, most countries are affected in some way by migratory phenomena, the impact of which affects not only migrants, but also the receiving societies. Immigrants who develop and maintain these multiple transnational relationships are referred to as transmigrants. Identity reconstruction for immigrants: migrancy and transnationalism necessitate the reconsideration and reconstruction of migrants(cid:495) self- identity. Migrant identity has been envisaged as fluid and adaptive instead of fixed. Diversity & multiculturalism: the growing cultural diversity has led to the promotion of multiculturalism. Intergroup anxiety: fear of being personally embarrassed, rejected or ridiculed in intergroup interactions.
