CMN 3105: Lecture #2 Sept 12 2012  Public deliberation­  Involves speech and argument­ citizens exchanging ideas.  Media allows people to share ideas not decide on one decision­ compromises. Media allows and facilitates  exchange of ideas.  Public deliberation also allows us to measure  The media helps to endorse a consequentialist ethic Public deliberation also allows us to measure the efficient of competing proposals by how well they will  succeed in promoting the good life Rhetoric is apart of the media­ the right choice of words and rhetorical eloquence is needed to become a  good member of the media/ presidents etc. Ex: I have a dream speech Martin Luther King­ people will tune  out if you do not use persuasion­ persuasion is used for a good reason such as uniting or liberating a group  but can also be used to mislead. Persuasion helps you gain merit.  Using rhetoric that brings truth forward­ “epideitic rhetoric” Mass media provides a forum for an open adversial review of
