People do not want the state in their business▯ paternalism why is this so?
“Soft” paternalism secondguesses a person’s choices with the goal of giving effect to his “true desires.”▯

“hard” paternalism occurs when the state overrules a person’s choices even when these represent his/her
(e.g., a terminally ill, competent adult repeatedly asks for euthanasia or assisted suicide but is denied, such
as Sue Rodriguez).
These hard paternalists claims that the individual has the wrong set of preferences▯ the state enunciates its
own conception of the good life.
