Lecture 16: theory cont. and introduction to alberta and quebec case studies. Identifies trend in us politics where ideological purity is becoming more common. In 1994, only 10% of americans were either purely conservative or purely liberal in their beliefs. As of 2014, 21% were classified this way. Suggests over time, more people entering formal politics are identifying as ideologically pure. Inversely, those less driven by pure ideology (the large majority) are increasingly staying out of formal politics. Theorized that the us was a classically liberal society as its founding, and continues to be. 1600"s people were consistently repulsed by british king. Idea was one way boat if you"re interested . If these people are framing the constitution, the country is classically liberal. They were rounded out of the country. Aka they were witch hunted out of the us to the north, aka would be canada. Canada is largely similar, except there were insignificant fragment of other ideologies as well.
