Serves as a facilitator in shifting language towards exploring one"s strengths and solutions: Once you have created momentum, the client takes charge. It is important to de-emphasize the therapeutic relationship because you don"t want to foster a dependency on the relationship. Intervention intended to be brief; usually no more than 5 sessions, with 4 or less in 80% of cases. Basically, takes only as long as needed to create an acceptable solution that client can implement on their own. Such a brief period is intended to prevent clients" dependence on the therapist. Same principles can be used with variety of clients and situations. You use the same tricks, the same ideas with all types of people and problems. Break down goals and then give positive feedback for coming. When they don"t have hopes, then ask when the problem is not so bad. If still no then look at coping strategies and if still no, look at history of past successes.
