Interracial crimes are more likely reported and racialized youth are more overrepresented. Some argue that this reflects idea about "ideal" females, innocence, paternalism "trial by media" cases have long-lasting repercussions for the accused. Trial by the media: guilty suspects are more interesting than innocents ones, even information may be unfairly reported and becomes attached to the person. Suspect"s guilty is implied through selective media coverage. It could also taint jury pools and influence trial outcomes. Effects of media on viewers: viewers develop beliefs about the world that are based on their news consumption, belief in crime is that it is a commonplace. It happens far more often: exposure to negative news events increases consumers" perceptions of risk. "superpredators" that never materialized: also depends on the emergency response time, also seen with fears about waves of girl young offenders, serial murder and child stranger abduction, this is despite criminological data that such crimes are relatively rare.
