Primary recreational activity: smoking marijuana to pass the time, their life is boring, and getting high with friends offered them a hobby, hang out, relax, socialize, a way to escape or cope with their life. Taken for granted/ high priority: something they were used to doing, would save money or work jobs to afford this past time. Source of commonality ritual builds trust: allows to engage in the same ritual and gain trust among peer group, provides sites of commonality and support, provides feeling of togetherness. Constraining influence of peer groups: idea that you"re not going to be friends with certain people that do certain drugs, just smoke marijuana, not do crack or cocaine. Acceptable use vs. unacceptable use: not before work, not in particular places in front of other people, who is drug addicted and dependent and people who have acceptable relationships with drugs.
