Why are some drugs illegal: cultural/moral/religious reasons, immoral, harms/dangers, however some legal drugs cause worse problems, we also allow dangerous behaviour, can look at how some people get addicted to running. Why do people use drugs: pleasure, risk taking/experimentation, challenging authority, adapting to environmental circumstances, pain, mental illness, trauma/pstd, social awkwardness social lubricant, dislocation, peer pressire, as an escape. Understanding economics of prohibition: central feature is prohibition, prohibit production, sale, consumption, people produce drugs for money, drug trade is profitable because people want drugs, prohibition raises the want and the value, creates a black market and trade violence. The reality financing terrorism feeding organized crime: without prohibition drug trade wouldn"t be profitable because of prohibition drug trade is a major source of funds for crime because of prohibition sophisticated networks for smuggling drugs problem is the trade in drugs under prohibition.
