Positive criminology comes out of the mid-1800s to 1940. It was, at that time, the way to respond to crime, but was then put away for 40 years. For the next 20 years, it made a comeback. It stated that behaviour is determined and is not a product of free-choice. Individuals are not products of the individual so neither is crime. People are born with something innate that will push them to commit a crime. Because of this, punishment does not get to the root of the problem. Hobbes wanted to combine religion, philosophy, and science. During the time of positive criminology, science could provide facts and could teach people about crime. He had one simple point: people can accurately gauge the actions or the characteristics of someone by simply looking at someone"s face. Men who couldn"t grow facial hair and women who grew facial hair should be watched according to lavater.
