Document Summary

Underclass is people that are marginalized, have less opportunity, are underprivileged etc. Under class people live in areas where prison is everywhere and nowhere, it is so deep that it is invisible. People are being forcibly removed and then return to their community once they serve their sentence (coerced mobility meaning they have little freedom, they are forced into certain neighbourhoods and into prison and such). There is a revolving door because people are arrested and then released and then arrested etc. Geographic concentration of these people because they are forced into these communities. Social institution: prison becomes a social institution in these places. Prison influences how men in these communities do masculinity. Communities farm team for prisons: idea that this is the training grounds for prison. Get them used to where they will eventually end up. The vast majority of these people know people who have been incarcerated.
