This case study focuses on a community that does not have access to the grid, however, is accessible to multiple renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy. The advantage of this hybrid system is to minimize environmental concerns such as production of substantial greenhouse gas emissions, social concerns such as noisy and disruptive generators, and also economic concerns such as having a high demand for diesel. In this report, a comprehensive strategy is developed where wind turbines and photovoltaic systems are key solutions in order to meet the requirements and needs of this community. However, diesel energy is still used as a back up, but the use of it is minimized. 2 | p a g e community chosen for this study is lac seoul located 56 km northeast of the city of dryden, ontario, with a population of 2,960 in 2012.
