Expository essays explain or describe something: like a book report. Exposition is necessary in an argumentative essay but if there is too much, it risks being seen as ller. Only retell the parts of the story that you are directly analyzing. Comparative essay compares two di erent things to prove a point. Argumentative essay persuades the reader to your point of view by presenting a clearly stated argument with proof from the text. Synopsis of argument, stated clearly and succinctly in introduction of essay. It is main point that essay is going to make. Thesis is re ned throughout research and writing process. It does not make claims that are impossible to prove, that are too much to prove within the scope of the essay you are writing. It does not argue something that is obvious and that everyone already agrees with. The more the argument goes against the obvious, the more interesting it is.
