Structure doesn"t make sense in the end narrator is writing in her journal as she"s crawling around her husband. Narrator: imaginative, reality of illness (nervousness), repressed, emotional, irrational, unreliable, delusional. Credible bc she"s telling the story as herself/how she saw it. Less credible bc its only her perspective, no insight to john or her sister in law. Husband: rational, practical, sees wife as childish, factual, no patience for anything thats not factual, close minded, controlling. neglects his wife and labels her characteristics as neurotic. Tells his wife to do nothing about all her emotions/the way he"s feeling. he looks down to all that stuff. He suppresses it which results in weakening her. Irrational is repressed: female, they couldn"t handle activity, weren"t stimulated enough to handle diff. types of activity. Told the best thing for women would be to withdraw from the world just eat, get some exercise, and get enough sleep.
