Colon: semicolons stop a sentence (independent clause, thought), so use a colon for lists. A short story cycle is a series of stories connected in some way. The connection can be by theme, characters, or location. Structure is how a narrative is arranged. For example, in medicine river, the structure counterpoints past and present. It is also like a series of photographs with each section presenting a picture of will and his community. Medicine river very much reflects the native storytelling culture. The novel is even more beautiful when read aloud. Community: arguably, the most important theme, what the book is really about. Chapter 1: harlen is introduced and he is counterpointed with will"s father. Also because she feels guilty of marrying bob in the first place.
