Document Summary
Laura is a vibrant young woman (central character) Where the guests are mostly all sophisicated, except for some dense males. A disturbing event occurs which they all react diferently. Laura is a young woman on the verge of adulthood, we hear her thoughts as well as hear her talk. She seems to be afraid of men who are assembling the tent for the party but enjoys their banter. It seems to be a regular, healthy and normal family. Sudden turn comes when they ind out the lower class man who lived near them was killed in an accident. Laura walks to the man"s cotage , where she sees his grieving family. Ambiguous ending; laura goes home and meets her brother and tries to say something but she cannot ind the right words. He may have understood or not it is unclear. Narraion: 3rd person point of view; limited to the thoughts of laura, personality and outlook of characters reveal themselves.
