Romance narrative: a very old form of fictional narrative that features a series of heroic adventures, one-dimensional characters, idealized settings, and often the supernatural. Age of enlightenment: exalted human reason/ logic, distrusted emotionalism, downplayed/ ignored the supernatural. Romanticism (late 18th/early 19th century: reaction against rationalism, explored validity of emotion, instinct, intuition, focused on importance of individual personality and experiences. Hermeneutics: the art and science of interpretation of written text. From the 17 th century on, it became how to bridge the gap between interpretations (includes human action).
