Suggests that we need to establish epistemological dialogues between the characters based on science and the humanities. Differences between the universities (crake & science vs. jimmy & arts) Presents a dystopic world where these two aspects rely on each other, but do so with tension and through a divide: crake = scientific knowledge, snowman = humanities knowledge. Dramatizes the danger that can appear if we sway to one form or another. Science critiques the world while humanities create a possible story. The only way we can conceive up living organisms as entities is if we isolate them from their environment: ex. Pigoons passive components in a corporation enterprise (used as a host for human tissues) Can"t rely exclusively on either one, they are intertwined. Need to establish a connection through sciences and storytelling. Chosen through a sort of corporation bidding process. Humanities are at the bottom of the pile.
