Weary blues was a 1915 ragtime (jazz) song by artia matthews: blues was commonly used as a descriptive word in the titles of jazz songs. Jazz evolved out of blues, and the two forms remain interrelated. The lines in the voice of the musician are in the dialect and are also 8 and 12 bar blues lyrics. The poem contests the commodification of jazz and blues music as popular entertainment. Transformation from first speaking stanza to second happiness to solitude. Narrator enjoying the music on the outside. African american musician experiences the music internally.
