Document Summary
However writing for children went back before that. One of the most important text of the ancient world is aesop"s fables- earliest children"s books. It"s a collection of fables credited to aesop, a slave and a story teller believed to have lived in ancient. They are the world"s best known collection of morality tales. The fables were originally told from person to person as much for entertainment purposes, but largely as a means for relaying or teaching a moral lesson. These early stories are essentially allegorical myths often portraying animals or insects ex. Grasshoppers, foxes, frogs, cats etc. representing humans engaged in human-like situations (a belief known as animism). Ultimately the fables represent one of the oldest characteristics" of human life : storytelling. Texts that were meant to teach children words and applying them to pictures. Often slaves were the ones teaching children this literature.
