It"s easy to jolt someone into submission after watching a scary movie, but it"s not the same as getting underneath their skin. Recent movies that i"ve watched give into the jolting- jump scare where something terrifying pops right up and crawls up to you. It"s weary and boring, but the same could not be said for oculus. The movie utilizes supernatural items in a way that uses suspense in order to cast tricks on the mind of the characters as well as the audience. Director mike flanagan did a great job using more than dark ghostly figures to leave me wanting for more. I agree that it succeeded in striking fear and terror into the hearts of the viewer, but i did notice a few problems. It tends to use the occasional clich d moment when something scary appears behind an unsuspecting character. I suppose that this wouldn"t be a problem considering.
