Customary experience of history is the quick alternation. Blunder a sense of things gone wrong, bliss a sense of joy, etc. The author gives us the two options, we don"t know how the story will end. The author allows us to look forward but prevents us from seeing. Falsely revived joy after departure of green knight trying to revive the courtly air. If a year did fold to its finishment, it would be circular. But, it does not a year is more of a spiral. It has an impulse to fold back on itself, but never fully meets the beginning again.
