The book is meant to be an adventure quest romance (go on a quest with an object in mind facing challenges along the way) in the sense of a medieval romance, not a harlequin romance. The racial cultural, and textual models within the novel are what fit it into this class. It is in tuned and on the pulse of how people are focusing on the issues occurring in racial, gendered, and socio economic struggles. Supposed to be plot driven and is highly focused on descriptive passages typically associated with victorian fiction. Over the course of the century, britain added roughly 400 million people to its empire. By the end of the 19thc, the british empire occupied one quarter of the earth"s land and counted one quarter of the globe"s population among its subjects. This was the apex of the british empire.
