ENV 2301 Lecture Notes - Lunar Phase, Religious Symbolism, Deep Ecology
Document Summary
Weeks 1-3: ancient roots, worldviews and environmental knowledge and story. Responses and reflections based on class prep class content. Need for nature: indoors, offices, stress relief, city street vs. nature walk. Beginning: spirits seeking somewhere to live in physical form, sun too hot, moon too cold, earth covered in water. Then: huge boulder rose out of the water, exploded water dried, land appeared, spirits settled on earth. Atomistic: a highly focused worldview focused on the self, or certain thing, not broad. Deep ecology: interdependence within the natural environment, close relationship within the natural world. Ecofeminism: comparing the degradation of the environment with the oppression of women, male centered worldview. Fixing issues in the environment means fixing issues with oppression first. Environmental wisdom: humans are apart of the natural world, depend on it, must learn how the world functions to survive as a species.
