By end of 19th century, european settlement of north america is complete. Parks movement emerges (yellowstone 1872, algonquin 1893) Laurier and roosevelt make conservation a policy issue. First entomologist employed by government of canada. Started ottawa field naturalists club, active in conservation of birds and wildlife. Helped bring about migratory birds treaty 1916.
