Development of wwii: large scale area assaults first seen because of aircraft ad- vances. Two kinds of bombardments seen: terror of civilians and strategic of industrial tar- gets. Strategic gets enemy to want peace: bomb factories making tanks, ammo they cant feed war machine (f&b will attempt this on g [they"re stronger]) i. e. ballbearings - useful in g war machines factory bombed = problems. Problem: bombsights aren"t exactly precise, especially in beginning. Precision bombing (not working) turn to carpet bombing (just bomb everywhere to get target) Us&b see bombing people will be strategic (terrorize civilians who won"t support war + kill workers) > force to surrender. Bomb dresden (kills 25,000 in 1945) with explosives to create firestorm which will suck all oxygen and kill many thousands of people in one night (nothing compared to j) Result was actually more anger and drive to finish war rather than beg for peace.
