When we left off, athenian assembly did not understand sarcasm: i alcibiades absence, allegations are made against him accusation of religious crimes that he participated in. Alcibiades is recalled to stand trial but he realizes that the goal is not for him to be ostracized but charged with treason. If alcibiades was called back, he would be executed. He offers his insight into athenian tactics, mindset. In late 415 bce syracuse appeal to corinth and sparta for help by attacking athens and sending military aid to sicily. Even at this s stage, the spartans are uneasy about breaking the peace of nicias outright. Alcibiades outlines for them the perfect strategy which gives them confidence in finally giving action. The main thrusts of his strategy are for sparta to establish a permanent garrison at decelia right in the heart of attica.
