No clue at the end of wwii that there would be this level of tensions on the international eld. The war had been a period of cooperations, tensions about the second front. Stalin had disabled the comminterm - the international soviet party. Us and uk had helped signi cantly through the war with the lend lease program. Half a million truck are delivered etc: from hot was to cold war. Clear that neither power wanted to attack the other, and neither wanted world domination. By 1944/45 the us policy makers had come to the conclusion that the door to prosperity in the future would be trough economics. Us used international entities to negotiate these things. Needed at least 10 year of peace to rebuild its economy. Conclusion that western nations would be ready for revolution. Both sides want peace prosperity and a decline of tensions. Meet in the middle of the elb river in germany.
