Look at deviaions of victorian society: rumor aspects. Atempts to examine society closely is hard because the sources are inadequate, sources dominated by males (authors and subject mater, usually adults), not complete in topics they survey, and incomplete in coverage. Adam kean: swale, seal hunter, old viking, very successful at huning seals, mixed reputaion, esteem of community, provided for his own family but the family of his two brothers, relaionships are hard to tease out. Some problems coninue to exist; legacy coninue long ater they prevail. Mid 19th century society is established and stable. Parents or grandparents who were immigrants but they were born there. Urban society = robust lower or under class. Blacks in atlanic canada, most were in lower(working) or under class, litle opportunity to advance. Irish, mostly roman catholic, frozen into pockets of poverty. Pockets of moving military, let behind abandoned family.
